IGAlto Agrelo IG
Alto Agrelo is a very new name. The INV recognised it in Res. 27/2025, signed on 16 July 2025 and published in the Boletín Oficial on 23 July, after Grupo Avinea applied. Nobody opposed the application. The resolution says the area is made of terroirs with distinctive qualities suited to quality wine. It's the fifth IG in the department, after Luján de Cuyo itself, Agrelo, Las Compuertas and Vistalba.
Avinea is the Bulgheroni family's wine group, and its flagship estate here is 232 hectares of certified organic vines. Its labels include Argento Estate Bottled Organic Malbec and Artesano de Argento Organic Malbec. iProfesional reports that the soil is much stonier than classic Agrelo, with traces of calcium carbonate, and that the vineyards sit slightly higher. Vinous says the vineyards were planted in new, virgin ground, made possible by drip irrigation.
I'd treat this as a name to watch. Avinea's estate is the only producer I can tie to it so far, and I'm curious whether other growers will use the IG.
