Añelo IG

San Patricio del Chañar is not itself an IG, so Añelo is the narrowest name a winery here can use. Del Fin del Mundo sits on Ruta Provincial 8 at kilometre 9. Familia Schroeder is on Calle 7 Norte and built its winery into the side of a barda, the valley slope, so the grapes move by gravity. Schroeder's first harvest was in 2003 and its first wine, Saurus, came out in 2005. The name comes from a titanosaur fossil, about 75 million years old, that researchers found on the property in 2002. Malma and Secreto Patagónico are the other two names I expect to see most.

The climate is cold desert. Summers are short, nights run cool to cold, the swing between day and night is more than 20°C, and rain averages about 180 mm a year. The wind comes mostly from the west-southwest in spring and summer. Soils are sandy and stony. I'll note on each review whether the label says Añelo, Neuquén or Patagonia.
