Balcarce IG
Balcarce is one of the newest wine places in Buenos Aires province. The INV recognised it in 2022 at the request of La Gloriosa S.A., the company behind Puerta del Abra, after its own studies found land with distinctive qualities for quality wine.
Puerta del Abra planted in 2013. It farms 12 hectares at El Vallecito, on the road between Balcarce and Mar del Plata, and has had seven varieties in production since 2016. Press reports describe soil with plates of porous limestone and a microclimate shaped by the hills, the winds and the sea. The INV counted 14.92 hectares in the whole partido in 2024, spread over three vineyards and all planted since 2010.
The volumes are small. The partido made 132 hectolitres of wine in 2024. I'd look for the Pinot Noir and the Albariño first, and I'd expect to hunt for bottles.
