La Consulta IG

La Consulta was recognised on 16 July 2014 (INV Resolution C.19/2014, published 23 July 2014) at the request of Leoncio Arizu S.A. It came a few months after Paraje Altamira. The resolution gives no altitude, soils or climate. It says only that the area is made up of terroirs with distinctive qualities suited to quality wine.

For numbers I have an importer's sheet, so I'd treat it as a rough guide. It describes a cold climate with few weather extremes at about 3,300 feet, on poor soils of sandy loam over a rocky bottom. The Zuccardi terroir guide adds that the Tunuyán river's alluvial fan forms parts of La Consulta as well as Altamira.

The names that turn up are Hobbs (the Rebón Vineyard), Trapiche (the Federico Villafañe single-vineyard Malbec, from old vines), Catena Zapata (an Appellation La Consulta Malbec) and Altocedro, which makes Tempranillo, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon here. What I'd look for is the bright acidity and supple tannins Hobbs describes, and some age in the vines.
