Lunlunta IG

Lunlunta is a small district. A University of Cuyo study counted 619 hectares of vines in 2011, a fraction of Barrancas at 3,132. The INV recognised the IG in 2005 after a winery asked for it on behalf of a vineyard there. The resolution says technical studies found terroirs with distinctive qualities for quality wine, and it draws the IG on the district's administrative boundary. It doesn't describe soil, climate or altitude.

The name I'd point to is Catena. Its Appellation Lunlunta Malbec comes from vines planted in 1930, which the Wine Advocate review quotes at 920 metres, and the winery's notes describe the soils as silty clay.

What I'd look for is the concentration old vines give, with the fruit still fresh.
