San Martín IG

San Martín is the fourth-largest vineyard department in San Juan. Beyond the varietal reds it grows both Torrontés grapes and 130 hectares of Aspirant Bouschet, a red teinturier variety.

Bórbore is listed as a San Martín winery, and a 2025 Tiempo de San Juan roundup says its Aya Syrah blends fruit from Pedernal, Zonda and San Martín, with the San Martín part grown at 700 metres. I haven't found a description of the department's wines on their own.

Where: San Martín is a Tulum-valley department with 3,558 hectares of vines in 2024, about 9% of the province. It has its own departmental IG inside the Valle del Tulum IG. It shares its name with a much larger department in Mendoza, so check the province on any label.

Styles: Of 2,606 hectares of wine grapes, Cereza covers 772. Malbec and Pedro Giménez come next at about 219 hectares each, then Syrah (169), Torrontés Sanjuanino (160) and Bonarda (147). Table grapes add 946 hectares, led by Flame Seedless.
