Santa Rosa IG
Santa Rosa had 7,530.4 hectares in 2025, down from 8,536 in 2022 across 601 vineyards. Of the grapes used for wine, 49.4% are red, 33.8% pink and 16.8% white. The INV counted 24 registered wineries, and 14 made wine in 2022.
A regional guide puts growing-season days at 28°C and nights at 18°C. Zuccardi describes the soils as deep and sandy with extreme temperatures through ripening. A business magazine credits Alberto Zuccardi with the family's early plantings here and with the parral Zuccardi, the trellis system named after him. The family's Santa Julia estate there covers 450 hectares.
When I open a Santa Rosa Bonarda I'm looking for the spice and weight Zuccardi describes, along with enough acidity to keep it from feeling heavy.
