Tandil IG
Tandil is a very small IG that arrived in 2024 (INV Res. 24/2024, published 8 July). The Asociación de Productores Vitivinícolas de Tandil, formed in 2022, pushed for it. Press reports count between 11 and 15 growers behind it. The application included geological, climate and soil studies, though I haven't found the results published.
Cordón Blanco is the only winery selling commercially. Matías Lucas and his siblings Mariano and Valeria planted it in 2008, first made wine in 2012 and now make 5,000 to 8,000 bottles a year. Lucas says the soil and climate give high acidity and lower alcohol. The INV counted 8.57 hectares in the Tandil partido in 2024, in six vineyards, up from 6.86 hectares in 2015. Planting is costly, at about US$40,000 a hectare, and that is the main brake on growth.
I'd look for freshness and modest alcohol here, since that's what the producer says it aims for. With one winery, finding a bottle may be the hard part.
