Gran Reserva Malbec 2021
Sample provided by the producer
Los Chacayes gives the 2021 Corazon del Sol Gran Reserva Malbec its frame and the wider Uco Valley gives it flesh, and the wine holds the two in balance rather than letting either win. Peony and dried rose petal come first, unusually lifted for Malbec, with marionberry and black cherry arriving underneath them. Eighteen months in French oak with 35% new is plainly visible as cedar and cocoa nib, though the fruit has the depth to carry it. The palate is broad and dry with a powdery grip through the middle, and the finish holds its line long after the sweetness of the fruit has gone. Highly recommended.
