Caucete IG

Caucete was the biggest Syrah department in San Juan in 2013, with 602 hectares according to a 2018 report to the Chamber of Deputies. By 2024 it had 393, behind Sarmiento. The department lost 927 hectares of vines between 2015 and 2024.

The producers people name are Casa Montes and Callia, both listed as Caucete wineries and both tied to the Pozo de los Algarrobos area. Most of the specific detail on Caucete wine sits under that IG.

For a Caucete label on its own, I'd look at Syrah, Malbec and Torrontés Sanjuanino, the grapes the department actually plants.
