Valle de Zonda IG
Grupo Peñaflor, which has vineyards in the valley, asked for the IG in 2015. A 2015 report said Peñaflor and Santa Sylvia were among the firms that make high-end wines from grapes grown in the valley.
Two small estates show what the valley does. Finca Sierras Azules sits at the foot of the Sierras Azules and plants 4.5 hectares at 800 metres. It makes about 26,000 bottles a year of its Summus wines from Syrah, Tannat, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and winemaker Gustavo Uajardo says Malbec and Tannat do best. Apotema, near Villa Basilio Nievas, farms 7 hectares: 3 of Syrah, 1.5 of Malbec, 1 of Petit Verdot and half a hectare of Viognier. Carbajo describes the soil there as loam.
I'd start with the Syrah and the Petit Verdot, and check whether a Malbec carries that eucalyptus note.
