The INV recognised the IG in 2014 (Resolution C.28/2014, signed 1 September and published 16 October) at the request of Emprendimientos Argentinos S.A. The resolution says the area has terroirs with distinctive qualities for quality wine. It gives no altitude or soil data.

The winery to know is Bodega Chañarmuyo. It farms about 100 hectares at 1,700 metres, grows Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Chardonnay, Tannat and Petit Verdot, and makes about 1.2 million litres a year, with roughly 80% exported to the UK, Japan and the US. A winery directory says Jorge Chamas began planting vines for it in 2001. The winery runs a small hotel on site.

What I'd look for is Cabernet Franc and Malbec with real freshness for a high, sunny site, and I'd check what the Tannat and Petit Verdot add to the blends.
